A downloadable project

slime molds are fascinating! this project imagines what a digital clock face made of slime mold might look and behave like! watch the digits swarm and transform as they're prodded by external stimuli at the minute marks! or click your mouse anywhere and switch to the hypnotizing evolution of the slime mold in the absence of stimuli!

controls:

  • <mouse click>: switches between clock and full simulation mode
  • <hold space>: render the external stimuli forcing the slime mold into digit forms

this project was inspired by three of the suggested topics: (1) slime molds, (2) electroluminescent screens (especially those beautiful amber displays of yore), and (3) imaginary computing!

the simulation mechanics are based on a 2010 paper of Jeff Jones. you can read more about the details at the devlog, which is hosted on a solar-powered server (s/o squeak <3)!

Cool project, cool devlog! So much detail on the process, i loved it. And the music listening suggestions for each post were great. Really cool to follow along on your development. Congrats on participating in your first jam and this impressive clock and slime-sim.

thank you :) and thanks for hosting the jam!
